William "Will" Moseley (born July 10, 2000)[1][2] was a contestant on Season 22 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Will auditioned in Leesburg. He sang an original song called "Gone for Good". All three judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Will was shown at Idol Arena, singing "Whiskey and You" by Chris Stapleton. He was subsequently placed in the same group as Triston Harper, Scarlett Lee, KBlocks, Ty'Esha La'Shae, Brant McCollough, Micaela McCall, Dawson Slade, Mackenzie Sol, Jennifer Jeffries, Justice Murphy, Jordan Anthony, and Hailey Mia, where the judges told them they all advanced. For his final solo performance, he sang "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. At the Final Judgment, the judges told him that he did enough to become a Top 24 semifinalist.

Top 24 (Hawaii Round)[]

Will was mentored by Tori Kelly in Group 1. He sang "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding. He received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another week.

Top 20[]

Will sang "Makin' Me Look Good Again" by Drake White. He received enough votes to place amongst the Top 10 in the results, making him a Top 14 finalist. In celebration, he reprised his original song, "Gone for Good".

Top 14[]

Will sang "Night Moves" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. He received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Top 12[]

Will sang "Starting Over" by Chris Stapleton. He received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Top 10[]

Will sang "Modern-Day Bonnie and Clyde" by Travis Tritt. He received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Top 8[]

Will sang "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash, as chosen by Lionel Richie. He also sang "What Makes You Country" by Luke Bryan, as a duet with Triston Harper. He received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Top 7[]

Will sang "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynyrd Skynyrd; and "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele. He received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Top 5[]

Will sang "The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy" by Chris Stapleton (from Toy Story 4); and "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf (from D3: The Mighty Ducks). He received enough votes to earn a spot in the Final 3.

Season 22 Finale[]

Will sang "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi; "My Town" by Montgomery Gentry; and his coronation single, "Good Book Bad". He received more votes than Jack Blocker, but not more votes than Abi Carter, making him the runner-up.

Trivia[]

  • Lionel Richie had to leave partway through Will's audition because he had to catch a flight. Just before he left, he gave a "yes" verdict to Will, while he was in the midst of singing—and rejoined the audition on FaceTime at the airport.
  • ABC press photos show that Will was brought to Final Judgment simultaneously with Dawson Slade, who was eliminated. However, this was not edited into the episode.[3]
  • Will played offensive line for two seasons on the Maryville Scots football team at Maryville College in the titular Tennessee city.[4]
    • He opted to quit football for music, after receiving three concussions within that timespan.[5]
