Wé Ani McDonald, known professionally as Wé Ani, (born January 23, 1999)[1] was a contestant on Season 21 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Wé auditioned in Nashville. She sang "Anyone" by Demi Lovato. All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Wé chose to work on her Stage Presence in the first part of Hollywood Week. She sang an original song called "Good For". She was later shown in a duet with Pjae called "The Cryptics", singing "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" by Blu Cantrell. For her final solo performance, she sang "Ain't No Way" by Aretha Franklin. Afterwards, the judges told her that she did enough to become a Top 26 finalist.

Top 26 (Hawaii Round)[]

Wé sang "Edge of Midnight (Midnight Sky Remix)" by Miley Cyrus, ft. Stevie Nicks. She received enough votes to be deemed "safe" for another week.

Top 20[]

Wé sang "Skyfall" by Adele. She received enough votes to become a Top 12 finalist. In celebration, she sang "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman.

Top 12[]

Wé sang "Something's Got a Hold on Me" by Etta James. She received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another round.

Top 10[]

Wé sang "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston, as chosen by Luke Bryan. She received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another round.

Top 8[]

Wé sang "Uninvited" by Alanis Morissette as her solo. She also sang "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, as a duet with Warren Peay (who was eliminated later that evening). She received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another week.

Top 5[]

Wé sang "Into the Unknown" from Frozen II and "The Climb" from Hannah Montana: The Movie. She, alongside Zachariah Smith, received the lowest number of votes for that week, eliminating her from the competition.

Trivia[]

  • Wé previously appeared on the eleventh season of The Voice under the name Wé McDonald. She defaulted to the team of Alicia Keys, and finished in 3rd place.
    • Coincidentally, this is the same season of The Voice that previous American Idol alum Sundance Head won.
  • Wé grew up in Paterson, New Jersey.[2]
