Skylar Laine Harden (born February 1, 1994),[1] known professionally as Skylar Laine,[1] was a contestant on Season 11 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Skylar auditioned in Galveston. She sang "Hell on Heels" by Pistol Annies. All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Skylar was shown in a montage of contestants who survived the Group Round, heard briefly singing "Son of a Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield. She was then shown in the final part of Hollywood Week, singing "You Lie" by The Band Perry for her third round solo performance. Afterwards, she was placed in the second deliberation room along with Ariel Sprague, Jeremy Rosado, Lauren Daigle, Jessica Phillips, Phillip Phillips, Reed Grimm, Brielle Von Hugel, Molly Hunt, Nick Boddington, Shannon Magrane, Caleb Johnson, Chelsea Sorrell, Ashley Robles, Jairon Jackson, Wendy Taylor, Hollie Cavanagh, Curtis Gray, Cari Quoyeser, Eben Franckewitz, and Schyler Dixon, where it was revealed that everyone had advanced.

Las Vegas Round[]

For the 1950s stage, Skylar was shown in a group with Chase Likens, Colton Dixon, and Cari Quoyeser, singing "Dedicated to the One I Love" by The "5" Royales. Everyone in the group, with the exception of Cari, advanced. For her final solo performance, she sang "Fancy" by Reba McEntire (originally by Bobbie Gentry). At the Final Judgment, the judges told her that she did enough to become a Top 25 finalist.

Top 25[]

Skylar sang "Stay with Me" by Faces in the semifinals. She received enough votes to place amongst the Top 5 Girls, making her a Top 13 finalist.

Top 13[]

For the Whitney Houston/Stevie Wonder theme, Skylar sang "Where Do Broken Hearts Go?" by Houston. On results night, it was revealed that she received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.

Top 11[]

For the Year You Were Born theme, Skylar sang "Love Sneakin' Up on You" by Bonnie Raitt. On results night, it was revealed that she received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.

Top 10[]

For the Billy Joel theme, Skylar sang the Garth Brooks rendition of "Shameless". On results night, it was revealed that she received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.

Top 9[]

For the Personal Idols theme, Skylar sang "Gunpowder & Lead" by her idol, Miranda Lambert. She, Hollie Cavanagh, and Jessica Sanchez also performed a medley as a trio, in a tribute to Madonna, singing: "Like a Prayer", "Borderline", and "Express Yourself". On results night, it was revealed that America's votes landed her in the Bottom 3. However, she was the first contestant sent back to safety.

Top 8[]

For the 1980s theme, Skylar sang "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler. She also paired up again with Colton Dixon for a duet, singing "Islands in the Stream" by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. On results night, it was revealed that she received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.

Top 7[]

For the 2010s theme, Skylar sang "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You?" by Kellie Pickler. She also did another duet with Colton Dixon, singing "Don't You Wanna Stay?" by Jason Aldean & Kelly Clarkson. On results night, it was revealed that she received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week. Due to the Judges' Save being utilized on Jessica Sanchez, the Top 7 remained intact for another week.

Top 7 Redux[]

For the Now & Then theme, Skylar sang "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga (the Country Road version), as her song for the former; and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Gladys Knight & The Pips/Marvin Gaye, as her song for the latter. On results night, it was revealed that she received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.

Top 6[]

For the Queen theme, Skylar sang "The Show Must Go On". For the free choice round, she sang "Tattoos on This Town" by Jason Aldean. The Top 6 also performed a medley of Queen hits with Brian May and Roger Taylor. On results night, it was revealed that America's votes landed her in the Bottom 3. However, she was the first contestant sent back to safety.

Top 5[]

For the 1960s theme, Skylar sang "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. For the British Pop theme, she sang "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" by Dusty Springfield. Skylar also reunited with Jessica Sanchez and Hollie Cavanagh for another trio, singing "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher" by Jackie Wilson. On results night, it was revealed that she did not receive enough votes from America that week, and thus was eliminated in fifth place.
