Riley Thompson (born October 12, 2002) was a contestant in Season 17 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Riley auditioned in Los Angeles. She sang an original song called "Oh Daddy". All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Riley was shown in the third part of Hollywood Week, singing "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash for her final solo performance. Afterwards, she was placed in either deliberation 1 or 3 and advanced to the Top 40.

Hawaii Round[]

Riley sang "Mama's Broken Heart" by Miranda Lambert. Afterwards, the judges told her that she did enough to become a semifinalist.

Top 20[]

Riley sang "Jolene" by Dolly Parton and "Like I Loved You" by Brett Young in a duet with Young. Afterwards, the judges told her she did enough to become a Top 14 finalist.

Top 14[]

Riley sang "Suds in the Bucket" by Sara Evans during the Live Show and "It Must Be Love" by Don Williams during the Results Show. She was did not make the Top 7 in the voting and was not chosen by the judges, eliminating her from the competition.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to auditioning, Riley appeared in Season 1 of the country-themed singing competition Real Country on the USA Network. She made the Top 21.
