Reed auditioned in Pittsburgh. He sang the theme song of Family Matters. All three judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.
Reed was shown in the first part of Hollywood Week, in the same Group of Ten as Phillip Phillips and Travis Orlando. He sang "I Got a Golden Ticket" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He advanced and was later shown in a group called "Groove Sauce" along with Nick Boddington, Aaron Marcellus, Jen Hirsh and Creighton Fraker singing "Hold On, I'm Comin'" by Sam & Dave. Everyone in his group advanced. Reed was intending to sing a capella for his final solo performance, but the producers told him that they could not do that, causing him to prepare a song in only 30 minutes. He ultimately sang "Georgia on My Mind" by Ray Charles on the drums. Afterwards, he was placed in the second deliberation room along with Eben Franckewitz, Skylar Laine, Shannon Magrane, Jeremy Rosado, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Phillips where it was revealed that everyone had advanced.
Las Vegas RoundEdit
For his final solo performance, he sang "It Don't Mean a Thing" by Duke Ellington on the drums. At the Final Judgment, the judges told him he did enough to make the Top 24.
Reed sang "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5, featuring Christina Aguilera. Although he was initially eliminated, he was selected to compete in the Wild-Card round.
Reed sang "Use Me" by Bill Withers. The judges did not select him to become a finalist, eliminated him from the competition.
