Qaasim Asani Malik Seawright-Middleton (born January 13, 1996) is an American singer who finished in 8th place on season 14 of American Idol.
Background[]
Qaasim is the son of actors Keith Middleton and Toni Seawright. He was formerly a musician in Nickelodeon's television show The Naked Brothers Band. He also appeared in the HBO documentary film The Music in Me. He has even tried out for The X Factor and The Voice.
American Idol[]
Qaasim auditioned for American Idol Season 14 with "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder and earned a Golden Ticket to Hollywood. While in Hollywood, he advanced passed the judgement and group rounds and performed "Give Me Love" by Ed Sheeran for the final solo round. During the Top 24, he performed "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars and was voted into the Top 16. He performed "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder during the Top 16 and was eventually voted into the finals. During the Top 12, he performed a reprise of his audition song and advanced to the Top 11. He performed "Jet" by Paul McCartney and Wings but received the lowest amount of votes. He sang "Come Together" by The Beatles in hopes of being saved by the Judges. The Judges did indeed use their one save of the season, keeping him in the Top 11. For the Top 9 he sang "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer and advanced to the Top 8. For Kelly Clarkson week, he performed Kelly's "Stronger" and was eliminated after fellow contestant Rayvon Owen was saved with the Idol Fan Save.
