Odell Bunton, Jr. (born October 3, 1994)[1][2] was a contestant on Season 22 of American Idol.
Audition[]
Odell auditioned in Nashville. He sang "Bring It on Home to Me" by Sam Cooke. All three judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.
A week later, Odell and his family were on the news back in Dallas, Texas discussing his journey, when he was informed by the judges that he received a Platinum Ticket, enabling him to skip the Idol Arena stage.[3]
Hollywood Round[]
Odell, alongside the other Platinum Ticket recipients (Abi Carter and Julia Gagnon), started Hollywood Week off with a trio performance of "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & The Papas. The three then sat and observed their competitors sing during the Idol Arena stage. For his final solo performance, he sang "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Nina Simone/The Animals. At the Final Judgment, the judges told him that he did enough to become a Top 24 semifinalist.
Top 24 (Hawaii Round)[]
Odell was mentored by Jelly Roll in Group 2. He sang "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars. He received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another week.
Top 20[]
Odell sang "The Door" by Teddy Swims. He did not receive enough votes to place amongst the Top 10 contestants, putting him in the Danger Zone. He then sang "Wait on You" by Elevation Worship & Maverick City Music (ft. Dante Bowe & Chandler Moore). The judges chose not to save him, thus eliminating him from the competition.
