Matt Wilson was a contestant on Season 21 of American Idol.
Audition[]
Matt auditioned in Nashville. He sang "For Tonight" by Giveon. All three judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.
Hollywood Round[]
Matt was one of the three contestants vying for a fourth Platinum Ticket alongside Elijah McCormick and Haven Madison. Following a vote at the American Music Awards, he did not receive the highest number of votes.
Matt chose to work on his Stage Presence in the first part of Hollywood Week. He sang "Can You Stand the Rain" by New Edition. He was later shown in a duet with Elise Kristine called "Chocolate Vanilla Swirl", singing "You Are the Reason" by Calum Scott. For his final solo performance, he sang "Forever" by Chris Brown. Afterwards, the judges brought him, Iam Tongi and Colin Stough up at the same time. The judges told him that he did enough to become a Top 26 finalist.
Top 26 (Hawaii Round)[]
Matt sang "Speechless" by Dan + Shay. He received enough votes to be deemed "safe" for another week.
Top 20[]
Matt sang "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur. He did not receive enough votes to make the Top 10, putting him in danger of elimination. He then sang "For Tonight" by Giveon. The judges chose not to save him, eliminating him from the competition.
