Mark Scott Kitchen (born February 21, 1984),[1] known on the show solely as Mark Scott,[2] was a contestant on Season 1 of American Idol.
Audition[]
Mark auditioned in Chicago. Although he was never heard singing, he was shown briefly dancing like Michael Jackson. (Later his song choice was determined to be "The Way You Make Me Feel" by Jackson.)[3] Randy and Paula both liked his voice and his ability to imitate Jackson, but Simon voiced strong concerns that someone who is good at impersonating Jackson should not advance. However, Randy and Paula voted "yes", sending him through to the next round.
Hollywood Round[]
Mark was shown in a group during the second part of Hollywood Week, in which he is captured visibly forgetting his lyrics. Despite this, he advanced past that stage. Later on, he managed to make the Top 30.
Top 30[]
Mark was in Group 3, and sang "My Girl" by The Temptations. He did not receive enough votes that week to make the Top 10, thus eliminating him from the competition.
