Mara Justine (born February 28, 2002) was a contestant on Season 16 of American Idol.
Audition[]
Mara auditioned in New York. She sang "Love on the Brain" by Rihanna. All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.
Hollywood Round[]
Mara was shown in a montage of contestants who survived the Groups of Ten. Although her final Solo Round performance was not televised, she was placed in the same holding room as Ada Vox, Jonny Brenns, Thaddeus Johnson, Noah Davis, Ron Bultongez, Samothias and Laine Hardy. Everyone in their room advanced. During the Showcase Round, she sang "Something's Got a Hold on Me" by Etta James and at the Final Judgment, the judges told her she made the Top 24.
Top 24[]
Mara was shown in Group 2. She sang "Run to You" by Whitney Houston and "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten in a duet with Platten. The judges deemed her good enough to become a Top 14 finalist.
Top 14[]
Mara sang "This is Me" by Keala Settle, from The Greatest Showman soundtrack, during the Live Show and "Love on the Brain" by Rihanna during the Results Show. She was not placed in the Top 6 in voting that week and was not selected by the judges to advance, eliminating her from the competition.
Trivia[]
- Prior to auditioning, Mara auditioned for the ninth season of America's Got Talent. She progressed to the final twelve before getting eliminated.
- Mara appeared on the twenty-fourth season of The Voice. All four coaches turned their chairs at her audition, and she chose to be on John Legend's team. She was then stolen by Niall Horan in the Knockout rounds and finished in third place overall.
