Mackenzie Sol Williamson (born September 4, 2000),[1] known professionally as Mackenzie Sol, was a contestant on Season 22 of American Idol.
Audition[]
Mackenzie auditioned in Santa Barbara. He sang "Bring It on Home to Me" by Sam Cooke. All three judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.
Hollywood Round[]
Mackenzie was shown in a montage at Idol Arena, which also included snippets of Justice Murphy, Roman Collins, and Blake Proehl. He sang "Changes" by Black Sabbath. He was subsequently put in the same group as Justice, Hailey Mia, Micaela McCall, Brant McCollough, Scarlett Lee, KBlocks, Jennifer Jeffries, Will Moseley, Dawson Slade, Jordan Anthony, Triston Harper, and Ty'Esha La'Shae, where the judges told them they advanced. For his Showstopper performance, he sang the Joe Cocker version of "With a Little Help from My Friends" by The Beatles. At the Final Judgment, he was called up alongside Ziggy. The judges could not decide between the two, so a sing-off commenced. He then sang "Jealous" by Labrinth. Afterwards, the judges told him that he did enough to become a Top 24 semifinalist.
Top 24 (Hawaii Round)[]
Mackenzie was mentored by Jelly Roll in Group 2. He sang "Jealous" by Nick Jonas. He received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another week.
Top 20[]
Mackenzie sang "I'll Never Love Again" from A Star is Born, by Lady Gaga (w/ Bradley Cooper). He did not receive enough votes to place amongst the Top 10 contestants, putting him in the Danger Zone. He then sang "False Alarms" by Lawrence (ft. Jon Bellion). The judges chose not to save him, thus eliminating him from the competition.

- Mackenzie was the first televised contestant on Season 22.
- He is originally from the United Kingdom—specifically England.
- Mackenzie participated in the second season of the UK version of The X Factor, despite being only 4 years old—twelve years shy of the age minimum of 16. He managed to get at least two "yes" verdicts from the judges; however, due to age requirements, he was unable to proceed further in the competition.[2]
- He is the first The X Factor alum to become a Top 24 semifinalist.
- He is the first contestant to sing two distinctly different songs with the same title ("Jealous") by two different artists in adjacent rounds.
