Lauren Spencer-Smith (born September 28, 2003)[1] was a contestant in Season 18 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Lauren auditioned in Sunriver. She sang "What About Us" by P!nk and "Always Remember Us This Way" by Lady Gaga. All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Lauren was shown in the first part of Hollywood Round, in the same "Genre Challenge" category as Kay Genyse, Bilaal Avaz, and Shannon Gibbons. She sang "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson. She advanced alongside Bilaal and Shannon. She was later shown in a group called "Kansada" with Makayla Brownlee singing "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele. Both members of the duet advanced. For her final solo performance, she sang "The Joke" by Brandi Carlile.

Hawaii Round[]

Lauren sang "Respect" by Aretha Franklin. Afterwards, the judges told her she did enough to become a Top 20 finalist.

This Is Me[]

Lauren sang "Mamma Knows Best" by Jessie J. She did not receive enough votes to place in the Top 10, and the judges chose not to save her, eliminating her from the competition.

Trivia[]

  • Lauren was the second Canadian resident to audition for American Idol in Season 18 after Saveria.
    • She was also the first Canadian resident to become a semifinalist, as well as the first ever semifinalist from a country other than the United States.
  • Lauren returned in Season 22, performing as a guest. She sang her hit single, "Fingers Crossed".
