Hollywood Round[]
Kristen was shown in a group called "Team Compromise" with Nancy Wilson and Nathaniel Marshall singing "Mercy" by Duffy. Despite obvious animosity between the three members, she and Nathaniel advanced. During her final performance in front of the judges, she sang "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson. At the judges' mansion, she was asked to participate in a sing-off with Jenn Korbee to determine who would advance to the Top 36. She sang "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. Afterwards, the judges told her that she advanced to the Top 36 instead of Jenn.

Kristen was shown in Group 3. She sang "Give Me One Reason" by Tracy Chapman. She was eliminated at this stage of the competition.

- Prior to auditioning for American Idol, Kristen finished in sixth on the fourth season of Nashville Star
- Coincidentally, another sixth place finisher from that show, Brent Keith also competed that season. Both contestants were eliminated in the semifinals.
- While showcased during her stay in Hollywood, the contestant marquee misspelled her name as Kristin McNamara.
