Katheryn Elizabeth "Katy" Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer-songwriter and actress who was a judge on American Idol from Season 16 to Season 22.

Early Career[]

Katy Perry was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California.

American Idol[]

Perry first appeared in American Idol as a guest judge during Season 9 for the first day of the Los Angeles auditions. She even performed on the show wearing a cape with Adam Lambert's name on it, on the Top 3 results show of Season 8.

She was announced as a judge for Season 16 on ABC on May 16, 2017. The decision received some criticism due to reports of her earning possibly $25 million for the job. She left the judging panel after Season 22, to focus on her career.

Prior to American Idol, Perry was best known for her music, including her notable singles "I Kissed a Girl", "Teenage Dream", "Roar", and "Dark Horse". She made her acting debut in an episode of How I Met Your Mother as the character Honey.
