Katy Perry​ is an American singer-songwriter and actress who has been a judge in American Idol since Season 16.

American Idol[edit | edit source]

Perry first appeared in American Idol as a guest judge during Season 9 for the first day of the Los Angeles auditions. She even performed in the show wearing a cape with Adam Lambert's name on it.

She was announced as a judge for Season 16 on ABC on May 16, 2017. The decision received some criticism due to reports of her earning possibly $25 million for the job. Perry returned as a judge for seasons 17 and 18.

Prior to American Idol, Perry was best known for her music, including her notable singles "I Kissed a Girl", "Teenage Dream", "Roar", and "Dark Horse". She made her acting debut in an episode of How I Met Your Mother as the character Honey.
