Audition[]
Kai auditioned in San Francisco. He sang "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" by The Platters. All four judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.
Hollywood Round[]
Kai was shown during the final part of Hollywood Round, singing "Part-Time Lover" by Stevie Wonder with an audible strain in his voice while playing his guitar. Afterwards, it was revealed that he advanced along with Ricky Braddy, Michael Sarver Alex Wagner-Trugman, Stephen Fowler, Alexis Grace, Jasmine Murray, Nathaniel Marshall, Joanna Pacitti, Arianna Afsar, and Casey Carlson. At the judges' mansion, it was revealed that he managed to make the Top 36.
Top 36[]
Kai was in Group 2. He sang "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" by Jimmy Ruffin. He was eliminated at this stage of the competition.
After the Show[]
Kai appeared in The Winner Is with his brother Ryan under the name "Kalama Brothers". They advanced to the final two of Episode 1, but took the cash offer and let their opponent, Katie Ohh, advance, believing that they did not receive enough votes.
