Julia Gagnón (born March 29, 2002)[1][2], later professionally known as JUL'IA[3], was a contestant on Season 22 of American Idol.
Audition[]
Julia auditioned in Nashville. She sang "Ain't No Way" by Aretha Franklin. All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.
After some deliberation, the judges then decided to upgrade her Golden Ticket to the final Platinum Ticket of the season, which enabled her to skip the Idol Arena stage. They presented it to her in person, directly outside the audition room.[4]
Hollywood Round[]
Julia, alongside the other Platinum Ticket recipients (Odell Bunton Jr. and Abi Carter), started Hollywood Week off with a trio performance of "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & The Papas. The three then sat and observed their competitors sing during the Idol Arena stage. For her final solo performance, she sang "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" by Jennifer Holliday/Jennifer Hudson (from the musical Dreamgirls). At the Final Judgment, the judges told her that she did enough to become a Top 24 semifinalist.
Top 24 (Hawaii Round)[]
Julia was mentored by Tori Kelly in Group 1. She sang "Rumour Has It" by Adele. She received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another week.
Top 20[]
Julia sang "I Believe" by Fantasia. She received enough votes to place amongst the Top 10 in the results, making her a Top 14 finalist. In celebration, she sang "Need a Favor" by Jelly Roll.
Top 14[]
Julia sang "Run to You" by Whitney Houston. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".
Top 12[]
Julia sang "Something in the Orange" by Zach Bryan. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".
Top 10[]
Julia sang "Here I Am" by Bryan Adams. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".
Top 8[]
Julia sang "(Somewhere) Over the Rainbow" by Judy Garland/Eva Cassidy, as chosen by Luke Bryan. She also sang "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry in a quartet, with McKenna Faith Breinholt, Kaibrienne, and Abi Carter. Julia received enough votes to be considered "safe".
Top 7[]
Julia sang "Roam" by The B-52s; and "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele. She, alongside McKenna Faith Breinholt, received the lowest number of votes, thus eliminating her from the competition.
