"Johnny Cash Heart" is the coronation song by Caleb Lee Hutchinson, the runner-up of Season 16 of American Idol.
Background[]
The song was written by Jay DeMarcus,[1] Kat Higgins,[2] and James T. Slater.[3] It was co-produced by Mike Daly,[4] along with Mike 'Frog' Griffith;[2] and subsequently released through Hollywood Records.[5]
Performances[]
Caleb performed it for the first time, during Round 1 on the season's penultimate episode: Top 3 performance night.[6]
Trivia[]
- The song makes overt references to both husband and wife rockabilly/country music legends, Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash, respectively.[7] (The judges previously compared him to Cash due to his deep vocal timbre.)[6] Later that same night, for his Round 3 Hometown Dedication song, Caleb performed Cash's signature tune, "Folsom Prison Blues".[6]
