Joanne Borgella (May 29, 1982 - October 18, 2014) was a contestant in Season 7 of American Idol.

Audition[]

JoAnne auditioned in Philadelphia. She sang "I Love You" by Celine Dion. Although Simon voted "no", Randy and Paula voted "yes", sending her to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

JoAnne's stay at Hollywood was not televised much, but she did manage to make the judges' final fifty. During the final deliberation, it was revealed that she had made the Top 24 instead of Cardin McKinney.

Top 24[]

Joanne sang "I Say a Little Prayer" by Dionne Warwick. She was placed in the Bottom 2 for that week, eliminating her from the competition.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to her audition, she performed at Madison Square Garden for a college football game.

Death[]

  • On October 18, 2014, Borgella passed away from a rare form of endometrial cancer that spread to her brain. She was 32 years old.
    • She was the second Season 7 contestant to pass away in 2014, having died 2 1/2 months after finalist Michael Johns.
