Jeremiah Copeland (born September 13, 1998),[1] also known mononymously as Jay,[2] was a contestant on Season 20 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Jay auditioned in Austin. He sang "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" by Stevie Wonder. Impressed by his audition, all three judges voted "yes" and gave him a Platinum Ticket, giving him the bypass to skip the first round of Hollywood Week.

Hollywood Round[]

Because Jay received the Platinum Ticket, he received the honour of being able to pick his duet partner. He chose Morgan Gruber. Performing as "M&J", they sang "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. For his final solo performance, he sang "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri. Afterwards, the judges told him that he did enough to make the Top 24.

Top 24[]

Jay appeared in Group 1 and sang "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5. He received enough votes to advance.

Top 20[]

Jay sang "You Know I'm No Good" by Amy Winehouse. He did not receive enough votes to make the Top 10, putting him in danger of elimination. He then sang "Believer" by Imagine Dragons. The judges chose to save him from elimination, making him a finalist.
