Janell Wheeler (born May 8th, 1985) was a contestant on Season 9 of American Idol.

Audition[edit | edit source]

Janell auditioned in Orlando. She sang "House of the Rising Sun". Although Simon voted "no", Randy and Kara voted "yes", sending her to the next round.

Hollywood Round[edit | edit source]

Janell was shown in the first part of Hollywood Week, singing "American Boy" by Estelle, ft. Kanye West. She advanced and was later shown in a group called "Middle C" with Casey James and Jermaine Purifoy singing "Closer" by Ne-Yo. Each member of her group advanced. For her final solo performance, she sang "Love Story" by Taylor Swift. After that, she was placed in a holding room with Shelby Dressel, Haeley Vaughn, Maddie Penrose, Jessica Furney, Angela Martin, Didi Benami, Lee DeWyze, Lacey Brown, Aaron Kelly, Ashley Rodriguez, John Park, J.B. Ahfua and Joe Munoz. It was revealed that everyone in the room had advanced. During the final deliberation, the judges told her that she made it to the Top 24.

Janell sang "What About Love" by Heart. She, along with Ashley Rodriguez, was placed in the Bottom 2 among the female contestants for that week, eliminating her from the competition.
