Jamar Simmons (born December 23, 1980)[1] was a contestant on Season 1 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Jamar auditioned in Atlanta. He sang "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" by Donny Hathaway. It is known that at least Randy and Paula both voted "yes", sending him through to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Jamar was shown during the final part of Hollywood Round, singing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. He managed to make the Top 30.

Top 30[]

Jamar was in Group 2, and sang "Careless Whisper" by George Michael.§ He did not receive enough votes that week to make the Top 10, thus eliminating him from the competition.

  • Jamar became the first American Idol contestant to utilize a mononym (in this instance, his first name) during the competition.
