Garet Layne Johnson was a contestant on Season 5 of American Idol.

Audition[edit | edit source]

Garet auditioned in Denver. He sang "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" by Elton John. Although Paula voted "no", Randy and Simon voted "yes", sending him to the next round.

Hollywood Round[edit | edit source]

Garet was shown in the first part of Hollywood Week singing "Can't Fight the Moonlight" by LeAnn Rimes. He was shown in a group with Michael Evans and Matt Buckstein singing "Do Wah Diddy" by Manfred Mann. Their collective performance was so poor that everyone was eliminated.

  • He is a third-generation cowboy and at the time of his audition lived in a town with a population of only four.
  • He was invited back to sing "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" by Ed Bruce with Michael Evans and Matt Buckstein as "The Brokenote Cowboys" during the Season 5 Finale.
