"Flame" is the coronation song by Laine Hardy, the winner of Season 17 of American Idol.
Background[]
The song was co-written by Ester Dean and Jon Levine.[1][2] It was co-produced by Levine and Mike Daly, and released through Hollywood Records.[1]
Performances[]
Breaking tradition, neither Laine nor runner-up Alejandro Aranda, nor third placer Madison VanDenburg, sang this song during the Finale competition rounds.[3] Instead, Laine only sung this song after being declared the winner upon the confetti shower.[4]
Chart History[]
Laine's debut single was available for digital downloading and/or streaming the day after he won.[2][4] It peaked at #8 on billboard's Digital Tracks chart.[5]
Trivia[]
- Unlike most seasons, Season 17 did not have the Top 3/5/7 each record their own potential coronation songs.[6] Instead, most likely they all practiced/recorded "Flame",[3] yet only Laine Hardy premiered the song after being crowned the winner.[4]
- This occurred only one previous time in American Idol history: Season 7, in which David Archuleta and David Cook each sang contest submission songs,[7] neither of which were intended to be the coronation single,[7] during the second round of the Finale. But upon winning, Cook sang a completely different song, "The Time of My Life", which was released as his single.[7]
