Emmy Russell (born January 10, 1999)[1][2] was a contestant on Season 22 of American Idol.


Emmy auditioned in Nashville. She sang an original song called "skinny". All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Emmy was shown at Idol Arena, singing another original song called "Like That". She was subsequently seen in a group at the end, alongside Isaiah Case, Reagan Mills, Blake Proehl, and Laela Dasher, where the judges told both groups that they advanced. For her final solo performance, she sang "More Hearts Than Mine" by Ingrid Andress. At the Final Judgment, the judges told her that she did enough to become a Top 24 semifinalist.

Top 24 (Hawaii Round)[]

Emmy was mentored by Jelly Roll in Group 2. She sang "Beautiful Things" by Benson Boone. She received enough votes to be considered "safe" for another week.

Top 20[]

Emmy sang an original song called "Want You". She received enough votes to place amongst the Top 10 in the results, making her a Top 14 finalist. In celebration, she reprised her original song, "skinny".

Top 14[]

Emmy sang "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Top 12[]

Emmy sang "Lose You to Love Me" by Selena Gomez. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Emmy sang "All the Small Things" by blink-182. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Emmy sang "Coal Miner's Daughter" by Loretta Lynn, as chosen by Katy Perry. She also sang "Hello" by Lionel Richie, as a duet with Jack Blocker. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Emmy sang "SHUT UP + DANCE" by WALK THE MOON; and "Water Under the Bridge" by Adele. She received enough votes to be considered "safe".

Top 5[]

Emmy sang "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus (from Hannah Montana: The Movie); and "Carried Me With You" by Brandi Carlile (from Onward). She, alongside Triston Harper, received the lowest number of votes, thus eliminating her from the competition.

  • Emmy is the granddaughter of country singer Loretta Lynn (1932—2022); and the daughter and niece, respectively, of twin sisters Patsy and Peggy Lynn, who comprised the short-lived country music duo, The Lynns.[3]
