DeAndre Scot Brackensick (born October 21, 1994)[1][2] was a contestant on Season 10 and Season 11 of American Idol.
Season 10 Audition[]
DeAndre's audition was not televised, nor was the city identified. At least two judges said "yes", allowing him to advance.
Season 10 Hollywood Round[]
DeAndre was shown during the second part of Hollywood Week, in a group called "The Minors", comprising of Sarina-Joi Crowe, Keonna Evans, Jalen Harris, and Felix Ramsey, who were all 15 to 16 years of age. They sang "Somebody to Love" by Queen. They received a standing ovation and all five advanced to the next round. After DeAndre's untelevised third round solo, he was placed in the fourth (and most populous) deliberation room, along with Rachel Zevita, Jimmie Allen, Thia Megia, Colton Dixon, Jessica Cunningham, Melinda Ademi, Jovany Barreto, Naima Adedapo, Jordan Dorsey, Brittany Mazur, Molly DeWolf Swensen, Tim Halperin, Ashthon Jones, Carson Higgins, Chelsea Sorrell, Paul McDonald, Karen Rodriguez, Hollie Cavanagh, Tiwan Strong, Ta-Tynisa Wilson, John Wayne Schulz, Symphony Howlett, Stefano Langone, Lauren Turner, Scotty McCreery, Sophia Shorai, and Julie Zorrilla, where it was revealed that everyone in the room had advanced.[3]
Season 10 Las Vegas Round[]
For The Beatles stage, DeAndre wasn't visible, but did progress to the next round. For his final solo performance, he sang "Turn Your Lights Down Low" by Bob Marley and the Wailers. At the Final Judgment, the judges told DeAndre that he was not ready to become a Top 24 semifinalist, thereby eliminating him, but they recommended he return in the future.[4]
Season 11 Audition[]
DeAndre auditioned in San Diego. His audition was shown in a montage of successful contestants, albeit without being heard. He purportedly sang "I'm Your Puppet" by James & Bobby Purify.[5] It is implied he received at least two "yes" votes from the judges to advance.
Season 11 Hollywood Round[]
DeAndre's stay during Hollywood Week was relatively invisible, but he was spotted rehearsing with Neco Starr, Aubree Dieckmeyer, Adrian Michael, and one other unidentified male for their second round group performance, singing "Hold On, I'm Comin'!" by Sam & Dave.[6] DeAndre later confirmed that he sang "Georgia on My Mind" by Ray Charles (originally by Hoagy Carmichael and his Orchestra) as his untelevised third round solo performance.[7] Afterwards, he was placed in the fourth deliberation room, along with Aubree Dieckmeyer, Neco Starr, Haley Johnsen, Courtney Williams, Joshua Sanders, Shelby Tweten, Mathenee Treco, Aubrey Cleland, Angie Zeiderman, Clayton Farhat, Stephanie Renae; Curtis Finch, Jr.; Britnee Kellogg, Heejun Han, Janelle Arthur, Gabi Carrubba, Richie Law, Baylie Brown, Wayne Wilson, and Jessica Sanchez, where it was revealed that everyone had advanced.[8]
Season 11 Las Vegas Round[]
For the 1950s stage, DeAndre was shown in a group with Jessica Sanchez and Candice Glover, singing "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" by Buddy Holly. They received a standing ovation and rave reviews.[9] Initially, all three members of their group advanced. However, in a controversial decision, the judges rescinded several advancements, including Candice's. For DeAndre's final solo performance, he sang "This Woman's Work" by Maxwell (originally by Kate Bush). At the Final Judgment, the judges told him that this season, he did enough to become a Top 25 finalist.
Top 25[]
DeAndre sang "Reasons" by Earth, Wind, & Fire in the semifinals. He did not receive enough votes to place amongst the Top 5 Boys, and was in danger of elimination. However, the judges opted to select him to fill one of six Wild-Card slots, which enabled him the opportunity to sing once more for survival.
Wild-Card Round[]
DeAndre reprised "Georgia on My Mind" by Ray Charles. At the end of the episode, Steven Tyler announced, on behalf of the judges panel, that DeAndre had become one of the Top 13 finalists.
Top 13[]
For the Stevie Wonder/Whitney Houston theme, DeAndre sang "Master Blaster (Jammin')" by Wonder. On results night, it was revealed that he received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.
Top 11[]
For the Year You Were Born theme, DeAndre sang "Endless Love" as covered by Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross (originally a duet from the titular film, by Diana Ross & Lionel Richie). On results night, it was revealed that he received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.
Top 10[]
For the Billy Joel theme, DeAndre sang "Only the Good Die Young". On results night, it was revealed that America's votes landed him in the Bottom 3. However, he was the first contestant sent back to safety.
Top 9[]
For the Personal Idols theme, DeAndre sang "Sometimes I Cry" by his idol, Eric Benรฉt. He, Joshua Ledet, and Heejun Han also performed a medley as a trio, in a tribute to Michael Jackson, singing: "The Lady in My Life", "Rock with You", and "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)". On results night, it was revealed that he received enough votes from America and was declared "safe" for that week.
Top 8[]
For the 1980s theme, DeAndre sang "I Like It" by DeBarge. He also did a duet with Hollie Cavanagh, singing "I'm So Excited" by The Pointer Sisters. On results night, it was revealed that he did not receive enough votes from America that week. He sang an encore of "Master Blaster (Jammin')" by Stevie Wonder as his 'Save Me' song. However, the judges declined to use their save; thus, DeAndre was eliminated in eighth place.[10]
