Dawson Slade was a contestant on Season 22 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Dawson auditioned in Tuskegee. He sang "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack. Lionel voted "no", while Luke was on the fence and asked him to sing another song. He then sang "Somebody Else Will" by Justin Moore. Luke and Katy voted "yes", sending him to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Although Dawson's Idol Arena performance was untelevised, he was put in the same group as Justice Murphy, Triston Harper, Scarlett Lee, Jordan Anthony, KBlocks, Will Moseley, Micaela McCall, Hailey Mia, Brant McCollough, Jennifer Jeffries, Mackenzie Sol, and Ty'Esha La'Shae, where the judges told them that they survived the round. His final solo performance of "That Don't Sound Like You" by Lee Brice was untelevised,[1] as was his Final Judgment verdict.[2] However, it can be presumed that he did not become a Top 24 semifinalist.

Trivia[]

  • Dawson's mother, Lindsay,[3] bears a striking resemblance to judge Katy Perry. After his audition, she entered the room, and Katy reacted with amazement, stating, "She's the prototype."[4]
  • ABC press photos show that Dawson was brought to Final Judgment simultaneously with Will Moseley, who did make the Top 24. However, this was not edited into the episode.[5]
