David Leathers, Jr. was a contestant on Season 11 and Season 12 of American Idol.

Season 11 Audition[]

David auditioned in Savannah. He sang "Remember the Rain" by 21st Century and "Never Can Say Goodbye" by The Jackson 5. All three judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.

Season 11 Hollywood Round[]

David was shown in the first part of Hollywood Week, in the same Group of Ten as Angie Zeiderman, Shannon Magrane and Jessica Phillips. He sang "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion. He advanced and was later shown in a group called "Hollywood Five" with Jeremy Rosado, Eben Franckewitz, Ariel Sprague and Gabi Carrubba singing "Mercy" by Duffy. Everyone in their group advanced. After his untelevised final solo performance, he was placed in the first deliberation room along with Jen Hirsh, Erika Van Pelt, Hallie Day, Adam Brock, Joshua Ledet, Creighton Fraker, Johnny Keyser, Colton Dixon, Jermaine Jones, Elise Testone and Lauren Gray, where it was revealed that everyone in the room had advanced.

Season 11 Las Vegas Round[]

David was shown in a group with Jeremy Rosado, Ariel Sprague and Gabi Carrubba singing "Rockin' Robin" by Bobby Day. Every member of the group advanced.

For his final solo performance, he sang "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5. At the Final Judgment, he was called up alongside Eben Franckewitz. The judges told him that he was eliminated and Eben advanced.

After the Top 24 was announced, the judges said that they intended to have a surprise 13th male contestant in the semifinals. David, Jermaine Jones, Richie Law and Johnny Keyser were considered. Ultimately, Jermaine was chosen.

Season 12 Audition[]

David's audition was not televised.

Season 12 Hollywood Round[]

David was shown in a group called "DKSK" with Kevin Quinn, Kayden Stephenson and Sanni M'Mairura. He and Sanni advanced. He managed to make the Top 28 Guys, but was eliminated in a surprise cut alongside Adam Sanders, Devan JonesPeter GarrettMarvin Calderon and Tony Foster, Jr.
