Charlie Askew (born December 30th, 1995)[1][2] was a contestant on Season 12 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Charlie auditioned in Baton Rouge. He sang "Breakthru" by Queen and "Nature Boy" by Nat "King" Cole. All four judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Charlie was shown in a group called "The Couch Potatoes" with Curtis Finch, Jr. and Nicholas Mathis singing "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars. Everyone in his group advanced. For his final solo performance, he sang "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye, ft. Kimbra. Afterwards, it was revealed that he advanced along with Nick Boddington, JDA and Mathenee Treco. He eventually did enough to make the Top 20 Guys.

Top 40[]

Charlie was shown in Male Group 1 and sang "Rocket Man" by Elton John. Afterwards, the judges told him he did enough to become a semifinalist.

Top 20[]

Charlie sang "Mama" by Genesis. He did not manage to place among the five highest voted male contestants, eliminating him from the competition.

Sing-off[]

On March 14th, 2013, a sing-off occurred between Aubrey Cleland and Charlie, the male and female contestant who finished in sixth place respectively in each group, for a place on the American Idol Live! Tour 2013. Charlie sang an original song "Sky Blue Diamond". He had lost the vote.
