Catie Virginia Turner (born February 14, 2000) was a contestant on Season 15 and Season 16 of American Idol.
Season 15 Audition[]
Catie's audition was not televised, however, a newspaper article mentioned that she auditioned in Philadelphia and did not advance.
Season 16 Audition[]
Catie auditioned in New York. She sang an original song called "21st Century Machine". All three judges voted "yes", sending her to the next round.
Season 16 Hollywood Round[]
Catie was shown singing "Come Together" by The Beatles in the same Group of Ten as Brandon Elder, William Casanova, and Zach D'Onofrio. She advanced along with Brandon and William. She was later shown in a group called "TACO" with Kyah Robinson, Alyssa Raghu, and Victoria McQueen singing "La La La" by Sam Smith. She advanced along with Alyssa and Victoria. She was also shown in the Solo Round singing an original song called "Pity". Afterwards, she was placed in the same holding room as Maddie Zahm, Dennis Lorenzo, Trevor McBane, Jurnee, Christina Jones, Amalia Watty, Marcio Donaldson, Victoria McQueen, Dominique, and Cade Foehner, and it was revealed that everyone in their room had advanced. During Showcase Round, she sang "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga and at the Final Judgment, the judges told her that she did enough to make it to the Top 24.

Catie was shown in Group 1. She sang "Call Me" by Blondie and "Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)" by Andy Grammer in a duet with Grammer. The judges felt she was good enough to become a Top 14 finalist.

Catie sang "Take Me to Church" by Hozier for the Live Show and "Havana" by Camila Cabelo, ft. Young Thug for the Results Show. She was placed in the Top 6 in voting for that week, making her a Top 10 finalist.

Catie sang "Once Upon a Dream" by Mary Costa and Bill Shirley from the film Sleeping Beauty. She received enough votes to become a Top 7 finalist.
Top 7[]
Catie sang "Oops!... I Did It Again" by Britney Spears and "Manic Monday" by The Bangles. She, alongside Jurnee, received the lowest number of votes, thus eliminating her from the competition.
After the Show[]
Catie served as a mentor for Season 21's Hollywood Round, mentoring in the "Songwriting" category" alongside Phillip Phillips. She is currently signed to Atlantic Records and has released several singles and EP's; she also wrote Maddie Zahm's breakthrough single "Fat Funny Friend" in 2022.
Trivia[]
- Catie was the first televised contestant on Season 16 as well as the first televised contestant since the show was revived by ABC.
- During Hollywood Rounds, she developed a crush on Zach D'Onofrio. Later, according to Zachary's Season 19 audition, they were dating.
- Catie was invited back to perform her original song "21st Century Machine" during the Season 16 Finale.
