Audition

Burnell auditioned in Baton Rouge. He sang "I'm Here" from The Color Purple. All four judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.

Hollywood Round

Burnell was shown in a group called "Mo-Flow" with Tony Foster, Jr., Mario Jose and Darien Moses singing "Some Kind of Wonderful" by Soul Brothers Six. He and Tony advanced while Mario and Darien did not. For his final solo performance, he sang "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri. Afterwards, the judges told him that he advanced. Eventually, he made the Top 20 Guys.

Top 40

Burnell appeared in Male Group 2 and sang "This Time" by John Legend. Afterwards, the judges told him he did enough to become a semifinalist.
