Benson James Boone (born June 25, 2002) was a contestant on Season 19 of American Idol.

Audition[]

Benson sang "Punchline" by Aidan Martin.[1] All three judges voted "yes", sending him to the next round.

Hollywood Round[]

Benson's stay in Hollywood was virtually invisible. His duet partner in Hollywood was reportedly Mary Jo Young. Despite not being televised, he did originally make the Top 24, but withdrew to pursue his own career. Reputedly, Anilee List took his place.[2]

  • Benson was the first televised contestant on Season 19.
  • Since withdrawing, Benson has released 2 EPs plus an album titled Fireworks & Rollerblades,[3] with the latter containing previously released hit singles such as "Ghost Town" and "In the Stars".[4] In addition, it contains "Beautiful Things", which has risen to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 7 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Global 200.[5]
  • Season 22 contestant Emmy Russell performed Benson's song, "Beautiful Things", on the Top 24 (Group 2) in Hawaii episode. She was voted through to the next round.
