Beautiful Life is the coronation song and debut single for Season 14 American Idol winner Nick Fradiani. It was released after he had won the show on May 13, 2015. It was also the theme song for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup soccer tournament, which was won by the United States on July 5, 2015. It was written by Chris Carrabba of the band Dashboard Confessional along with Rykeyz and Ayanna Elese.
Background[]
According to Chris Carrabba, he and friends Rykeyz and Ayanna Elese had written the song in what he called "a little bit of a vaccum" and admitted that it was a blur to him as to how the song was submitted to Idol in the first place.
The song was given to Nick as his possible coronation song after making the top 3.
Performance[]
Nick first performed the song, which he described as "fun. meets Goo Goo Dolls meets me", on the May 12, 2015 performance show. He received a postive reaction from the judges, who all enjoyed it. Many, including in-house mentor Scott Borchetta, feel that his performance of the song may have cemented Nick's victory.
Music video[]
FOX Sports released the music video after Nick had won. The video features him performing the song on Idol mixed with footage of the US women's national team.
The song's official music video, directed by Shawn Drake, premiered on Nick's VEVO channel on July 23, 2015.
Chart position[]
With 50,000 copies sold in its first week, the song debuted at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 22 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, number 38 on the Billboard Adult Top 40, and number 39 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40.
Other performances[]
Besides performing it on the show, Nick has performed it at various gigs and on different TV shows. He even perfomred it in Vancouver, Canada on July 3, 2015, two days before the World Cup final between the United States and Japan. Nick even sang it as a duet between him and season 15 contestant Gianna Isabella on the February 11, 2016 episode of Idol.
