"Battles" is the coronation song by La'Porsha Renae, the runner-up of Season 15 of American Idol.
Background[]
The song was written by Fancy Hagood.[1][2] It was produced by Harmony Samuels,[2][3] and subsequently released through 19 Recordings.[4]
Performances[]
La'Porsha performed it for the first time during Round 1, live on the penultimate Top 2 Finale performance episode.[5]
2016 Summer Olympics[]
La'Porsha's song was selected as the theme music for the U.S.A. Women's Gymnastics Team at the 2016 Summer Olympics.[6] A video package was introduced with a 'Gold Medal' mix,[4] via sound engineer José Cardoza.[7]
Trivia[]
- Songwriter Fancy Hagood,[1][2] under contract at Big Machine (co-founded by in-house mentor, Scott Borchetta), composed this song as a tribute for his friend and roommate,[6] Simone Battle—a first-season finalist on The X Factor USA,[8] who committed suicide at age 25.[8]
- American Idol producer Megan Michaels-Wolflick's father is David Michaels,[6] who was the NBC sports producer at the time—and as per usual, the network broadcasting the Olympics.[6]
